Comment:

I have Intel D845PESV MB with integrated 82801DB/DBL C97 audio controller chip (SoundMax). I also have Logitech USB Headset. Device manager can see and install drivers for both or either and indicates that "device is working properly", but the sound control panel cannot see either of them for play back. (Input devices are all showing up just fine.) None of my audio software is able to see either output device. I have removed and uninstalled both devices multiple times, updated and rolled back drivers, etc. Windows audio service is running just fine. SoundMax control panel gives error dialog, "Digital output is taken by another application." Win amp reports "No sound Device found, Error code 2 Device ID has been used that is out of range for your system." Windows Media Player reports "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." A theatrical playback software package report, "Error" Can't find a free sound driver. Proc Name = initDevice, Can't initalize device 1 SoundMax Digital Audio." (This software should be able to see BOTH devices at the same time.)
Device manager shows: PCI Bux 0, Device 31, function 5 for the SoundMax
Location 0 for the logitech.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on, or how to fix it?
