Installed new DVD ROM drive (as Slave on the secondary IDE connector) and Cyberlink's Power DVD5. An audio CD plays well but the audio on the DVD disk plays choppy (video plays well).
Tried changing drive option to disable digital CD Audio but still choppy.
In Power DVD's Configuration (Region correct), tried changing output modes
and again it made no difference to the choppiness. According to the Properties in Device Manager and Sounds & Multimedia, all devices are working properly without problems!Ideas appreciated, many thanks.

Ati Rage Pro Graphics (8Mb)
Creative Soundbaster AWE64I'm ok.

Did you go to liteon.com to download drivers (and possibly update your firmware)?
Try watching the DVD with windows media player...any problem there?
Go to device manager (right-click "My Computer", click properties, click hardware, click device manager). Go to the IDE controller, and see if DMA is set to auto for the IDE channel that the drive sits on.

Many thanks for the ideas ..(by...).
Checked out the Lite-On site, there are no firmware downloads available yet for this model (manufactured Dec 04).
There is a driver download patch at Cyberlink (but it didn't list this audio issue) for Power DVD5 but haven't applied it yet.
The audio problem is the same when the DVD is played in WMP.
DMA is set to auto on it's respective channel.
I'm fresh out of ideas, keep 'em coming by...
I'm ok.

You might want an extra 64Mb of ram to get 256Mb, Is the processor a Celeron? If so it my not be up to the task. Also make sure the audio is set to 16Bit if it is higher and your sound card dosent support it you will get choppy sound. If you have any graphic equalisers or sound enhancing features turned on turn them off.
Good Luck.Mattwizz3 : )

80Gb WDC, 8Mb Buffer
128Mb ASUS Radeon A9550

Thanks Mattwizz3
The processor is not a Celeron but I agree with you and an update should be imminent, at least another 64 MB RAM too!
The Sample Rate Conversion was only partially successful (reduced to Good from Best), almost watchable but a bit of choppiness in the sound.
As far as I know, there are none of those Sound Enhancing features or Graphic Equalisers running.
Can't afford to upgrade yet, any more ideas?
Thanks.
I'm ok.

Click on Start / Run/ dxdiag /click OK
check your sound.
