I recently purchased a Gateway 2000 (P5-200) desktop computer at a computer show. This PC has a GenuIntel Pentium II processor and the speed is 350 MHz. A paper bar code tag on the motherboard (MB) has the ID: 4000532. I am running Windows 98 SE.

Since the original computer case did not have expansion capability, I purchased an ATX midi-tower case from a local dealer. The case is: INNO – SA06. I really like the case, and the transfer of components from the old case (which did not have any expansion capability) was relatively easy.

My old Gateway 2000 power supply was a “Power Tronic” switching power supply (WK-6145 DL3 145W max). The number stamped into the back of the old case was: E-3001 REV 00, P5-200.

I have some questions with regard to installing the wiring connectors, that are on my new case, to either the motherboard (MB), or to the power supply. My questions are:

1. On the new case there is a connector labeled “POWER LED”. This lead has two wires: white / green. Can I plug this lead into the MB, where I took the old “POWER LED” connector from ??? The old lead had black / green wires.
I thought the black (BK) was always ground, the white had a + DC charge !!!!

2. On the new case there is a connector labeled “HDD LED”. This lead has two wires: white / red. Can I plug this lead into the MB, where I took the old “HDD LED” connector from ???. The old lead had black / red wires.

3. The new case has a front and rear fan. The leads from the fans have three wires:
white / red / black (for the rear fan), and yellow / red / black (for the front fan). How do I connect these leads ??? Are there male pins on the MB for this ??? Or, can they be connected to the power supply in some way ???

4. The new case has two connector leads for USB. The first connector is green / white / red, with a single white connector. The second connector is green / orange / black, with a single black connector. Where are these connected to on the MB ??? These two USB connectors (from the new case) are labeled “2V USB- / USB+”. I want to be able to use the two USB ports at the front of the case. Can I still use the two USB ports at the rear of the case ???

5. The new case has a white / orange female connector labeled “POWER SW”. Where is this connected to ???

6. The new case has a four-wire combo, with four separate leads that are labeled: “SPK L”, “SPK R”, “G”, and “MIC”. I have a sound card installed into the MB. At the top of the sound card there are three slots labeled: L - R (slot #1), L –R
(slot #2) and I –O (slot #3). How do I connect these wires ???

7. The new case has a connector labeled: “SPEAKER”. This has two wires: black and yellow. Where is this connected to ???

8. The new case has a connector labeled “RESET SW”. This has two wires: blue and white. Where is this connected to ???

If you really needed to ask on all of those I highly recomend you take your PC to a local shop and let them make sure everything is installed properly.

If there is a post or anything else in the wronge spot under the Motherboard it is sure to short out.

hello
if the wire marked power lead is realy the power lead wire for that caes plug it into the exact same place the old one came off of.color dont matter placement dose.
the same applys for hdd lead.
for the fan placement it depends on the mobo for where these are places on my chiantech it had 4 places to plug fans into.
look in your mobo manual. if you dont have one goto your mobo makers web sight and d/l it.
you can get adapters for for conecting the fans to power supply at radio shake. but look closely on your mobo for male plug for fans sticking up for auxzillery fans.it might have the word fan slik screened paited onto the mobo.may only have a no. for referance in mobo manual.

if your mobo suports front ubs poerts it will have the conectors for front ubs with in reach of these plugs and they will be side by side. and should say ubs1 and ubs 2
agian color wont mater placement will.
look at manual.
my one board suports front anf rear ubs.but case does not.
as for power switch in the row of male conectors where hddled ect are look for one that says ps or pw. agian if your not sure and get these roung you will fry things good look in manual and look on board. on mine it was beside hdled but on others i bulit some were not.
as for two wire speaker it plugs onto the mobo look for male plug look for sp beiside it.your mother board should have this by default because this is the system speaker that gives the beep at start up.and error codes.

as for the other speaker wire are you sure this dose not come from the back of cd rom?

dont do any of these steps if your not sure.
read over every thing on board and manual. read over every marking till your sure.
the first board is the hard one.
