is it serial port connector?? most external modem use serial port instead of parell port.. parell port, that's for printer ONLY. i have never heard of parnell port modem. by the way, how old is ur system? your computer should have serial port equipped.

I've got an external USR modem with the 25 pin attachment and I use an adapter so I can hook it up to the 9 pin serial connection. Works great.

As steve said.. you need a 25pin tp db9 adaptor. 25 pin at the modem to a serial port at the pc.
If you dont have a serial cable.. you can get a 25 to db9 cable.. this eliminates the adaptor. Radio shack and any pc store has them.
