Attach DEC VT 220 by 25 to 9 pin cable

Is is possible to connect Dec VT220 into 9 pin female port of a PIII cpu using 25 pin to 9 pin adapter?

VT220 comes with two 25 pin ports (male & female) so it requires 25 pin cable but the PIII cpu has one 9 pin male port which was used with serial mouse once upon a time.

Another doubt of mine is, being a novice, whether it is possible to do so 'cause because the lesser number of pins at the cpu end may loss required/total number of pin signals. (I've heard that every pin sends/receives signal). Not a very silly question, I hope.

Please help,

For basic functions it should work. The vt220 second port usually goes to a serial printer.. Early RS232 port have reversed gender. For full functionality you may need to jumper the proper hardware handshaking at both ends of the cable or set the dip switches. A manual would be nice.

A question about a VT220, now this is a cool question.

I would hop on over to and browse the database there for some help with the pinouts.
