Hi Folks.

This is re-post of my origional question reguarding this card.

http://www.computing.net/hardware/wwwboard/forum/42881.html

This card was given to me as is. At the time I thought the Dvd not being installed was the reason why I could not capture.

I have downloaded from Ati, the Multimedia Center 9.06 along with the drivers for the card. But it would not record. The icon was simply not there.

Downloading version 9.13 solved the problem, but the computer was unstable. Giving me a "no signal" message when the signal was fine and then crash the computer.

A clean install of version 9.13 would not work. The card was not recognised.(i should have ghosted my system before trying any of this).

Any ideas?

You may be trying to use the wrong drivers.
What ATI TV Wonder card is it - an older ATI TV Wonder, or the more recent ATI TV Wonder Pro, or what? If you're not sure, quote the product number on the label on the card - probably 102xxxxxx.

What video card or oboard video are you trying to use this with? The TV Wonder will work properly with ATI and NVidia video, but it may not work properly with some other video. If a card, does it have video capture capability? If it does, you can only use one or the other to capture video - if the video is ATI, you can probably toggle which one to use.

ah yes...the all in wonder series. my graphics card is part of this series and i have lost MANY countless hours due to this card. the good news is that the problem is with software...the bad news is fixing this problem is a pain in the ass.

the case with these all in wonder cards is that newer is not necessarily better. i take the card is an older card the newer multimedia center software is NOT backwards compatible. ATI at some point just stops incorporating support for their older cards into their newer releases. The best way I've found to ensure that all the software is working properly is to simply install the software that came with the original card and maybe upgrade to 1 or 2 releases after that date. I can't give you exact releases as I don't remember, but this is the core of the problem. Ask your friend if he has the original CD that came with the card and if not (which is probably the case) try to find something close to it on the ATI website. The problem with this approach is that once you install something newer, it very difficult to uninstall and install something older, at least this is my experience. Many a time I've gotten so frustrated that I simply reformatted and installed the software that came with the card.

But in short that is your solution...don't install the newest MMC, although the newest display driver or a newer display driver i've found can work allright with an older card.

I have not tried using an older version. So off to Ati I went, downloaded Version 8.9 and all is well.

Thanks.
