This is my problem.
I currently have a nVIDIA TNT2 M64 card.
I want to upgrade it to something better, but I don't have much money.
With the money I have these are my options:
- ATI RADEON 7500 with 64MB DDR, DVI and TV out
- nVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with 64MB DDR and TV out
I tried the GeForce one and it's a great improvement over my current card (of course) but I have the doubt if the RADEON will be better, unfortunately I don't have the oportunity to test it.

Which it's the best? Please give me your thoughts.

TIA

If you have a look at this chart, you'll see that they're closely matched, with the GF4 MX 440 being slightly better.

Pricewise, the MX 440 should be a little cheaper as well. It depends on how much you can afford. There are better choices though...have you checked PriceWatch.com? Both the ATI 9000/9100 & the GeForce FX 5200 are about $60.

Thanks for the info but I don't live in USA. The GeForce FX ones are too expensive for me, but maybe I can afford an ATI 9000 (and it supports DirectX 8.1 and OpenGL 1.3). Anyway ATI cards have more features for the money so I'll go with the RADEON.

Hi mate, im a student on a tight budget and i was a few month ago in the same situation as you, what video card??? after reading some articles on the internet about the MX440 i was horrified. also i was horrified when my mate who has a mx440 only got 4000 3d marks in 3D mark 2001. in my research i came to the conclusion that the MX series cards are all crap. and went out and bought a GeForce 3 Ti 200, i tell you from my heart it is the best thing i have ever done, 7500 marks staright off. plays every game i have flawlessly. few weeks ago my other mate bought GTA vice city for his pc and was struggeling to get it to run on his MX series geforce 2, i immediately told him to get a Ti series geforce 3 and he went out an bought a GeForce 3 Ti500 for 70£, i got my Ti200 for 50£. the MX GeForce 4's are currently around 60 - 70£, correct me if im wrong. also apparently the FX series cards are not much cop either. I am a student on a tight budget, but i am more than willing to play an extra 20£ for a card that performs over double the GeForce 4 MX. i cannot say anything about ATI im sorry, cause i havent owned any of their products.

hope my advice helps.

P.S. the Ti series GeForce cards drag a lot of power so u need at least a 350 watt power supply. i had problems with my 250 watt so i stuck a 550 watt in, runs like a babe now.

see ya.
