Subject: ATI graphics card, system freezes OS: Windows XP CPU/Ram: Intel Pentium 500mhz/832

Comment: I just installed an ATI Radeon 7000 graphics card on an ECS P6VAP-A+ motherboard with 832 mB RAM, running Windows XP. At first I couldn't log in at all, it just froze right at the welcome screen. After updating drivers this was no longer a problem, but now the system freezes randomly during operation. Has anyone else had this problem?

Reply: (edit)Came across this problem on my friend's system......that had some sort of ATI too....(come to think of it , I too have an ATI rage) Well, he was running winXP and the system, as you say, chokes up without warning....He just gave up and switched to win2k...and no more probs. And about my ATI, I used to have freeze problems when I ran win98...but no probs. when I switched to win2k. Now, does this mean ATI chokes on anything other than win2k?

Reply: (edit)XP Pro didn't like my ATI Rage card either, it shut down the computer and told me it was my ATI card, yet when I put it in into a computer running WinMe...no problems with it at all...Who knows...XP doesn't like alot of stuff..

Reply: (edit)I Have ati radeon 8500LE(128) and it freeze also. And when i'm playing need for speed hp2 it freeze and neither tilt or go back to windowsXp. Then it gave me error log which says that some file (ati2m...) got stuck infinete loop. Then I try geforce2 and after that I but that radeon back and it works better. But After a year hard work with Xp i'm giving up and switching to w2k.
