Hello,

I've been playing World of Warcraft a lot lately, and yesterday I recieved the following error message twice:

Error Message

VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands.

I went ahead and updated my drivers. And so far the message hasn't reappeared. Any ideas what was happening?

Playing high end games will put a serious load on any graphics card. The gpu will heat up as it's being pushed pretty hard. Heat trapped in the gpu is not a good thing as it hangs upside down in the slot. Never figured out why they do that. But I would suggest a 40mm fan mounted to the gpu heatsink fins. If you get a gpu cooler kits it comes with the little fan and the mounting hardware. It's not really needed to replace the heatsink just mount the fan up and plug it in to the power supply or to the mother board if it has a second fan jack. Be careful though, static discharge can and will kill a system just as sure as you smacked it with a hammer.

I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid...

That's just how the slot system works. Out of the dedicated air space, the slot is on the top, so anything else has to go underneath.

I've seen some cases that turn the motherboard upside down....in that case, everything will be topside.

Thanks for your responses. I'm currently using an HIS Radeon Pro 9800 ICEq edition video card, and thus far the nifty built-in Arctic Cooling Fan seems to have done a good job of keeping system temps down while funneling air out.

I've played quite a few games with this card in the past however, so I wasn't sure if it was ending its lifespan simply due to heavy extended usage, or if something else was amiss.

Thus far today I haven't received any further error messages.
