so far ive heard from a few top gamers that pentium 4 3.06 cpu hyper-threading is not all that great, and some say they even gone into there bios CMOS setups and disabling the Dam thing so theres some real world computer pracnatality. AMD rules! claw HAMMER is on the way in Jan 2003.

///I guess it's the only
"bad" thing I can think of about Hyper-Threading, so I have a tendency
to dwell on it. One interesting point is that I haven't heard a peep
out of AMD or any rumor source about pursuing Hyper-Threading (a.k.a.
"Symmetric MultiThreading," or SMT) technology. Maybe AMD lacks the
development resources.///

AMD is making some serious advancements in the near future. I would suggest to you to wait for a few months if possible, just to see what gets distributed. The best thing about AMD right now is the 166/333 mhz front bus speed on their new processors. So, no matter what, make sure your motherboard supports a bus speed of 166/333 mhz. I would also get a KT333 or KT400 chipset on the board so that the new faster processor can synchronize with the fast DDR memory that's out there.

If you wait, AMD will be releasing their "Claw Hammer" (But they are going to change the name to something else). The thing that will be cool about this processor is the 166/333 bus speed and the bigger cache (L2 is going to 512K).

Good Luck
