Comment: Hi I asked this question before with very limited response, so I thought I would ask again. Will a Mobile Athlon 64 processor run on a desktop pc? Has anyone tried it and if so on what mobo. The reason I am asking is because I have tried to run one on MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R mother board with 512mb Crucial ballistic ram geforce 5900 XT graphics card but cannot get it to post. The pc powers up,fans spin but no video.I know the graphics card and memory are good (tested on another pc).The PSU is a 600Watt Jeantech Arctic with twin 12 v rails supplying 18amps each. So I have narrowed it down to either CPU or motherboard. since I don't have another socket 754 processor I cannot prove one or the other.

Reply: (edit)When was your previous post. I had a quick look and found nothing. There is no reason why a mobile processor should not work in a desktop machine. Just make sure that the motherboard has been correctly set up for it.

Reply: (edit)Hi Rimfire thanks for the quick response. As far as I can tell the M/B is set as per the manual, but I will go through it again as soon as I get a chance.Unfortunately I don't have access to that PC at the moment and won't have access to it for another 4 days.In fact after today I am sure I am not sure I will have access to any PC (travelling). I have attached the link to my previous post, which on second look was very general. http://computing.net/cpus/wwwboard/forum/11636.html

Reply: (edit)"I've heard they can" Yes, I agree that is a somewhat limited response! I don't think we can really achieve much whilst you don't actually have access to the computer. When you do get back to it, you will need to check that the motherboard is set to the requirements of the cpu. Also is there any beep codes? In four days, this thread is likely to be at the bottom of this page, if not on page 2. You may need to start another thread with links to this and the previous one.

Reply: (edit)Hi Rimfire Thanks again for the response. You are right I don't think we will be able to reach any conclusions whilst I can't access the pc. I think I may have to re post this thread when I'm back. as for your question about beep codes - Zilch. Nothing, just a blank screen and a blinking amber light on the Monitor power switch just as if the PC is switched off.
