Hello, I'm planning to upgrade my ancient to at least 1Ghz to play older games smoothly. Eg. like cs, half life, starcraft, diablo 2... etc... Anyways, I'm planning to purchase these two setups. They both cost the same price, both $67.
Option 1
AMD Athlon 1.1Ghz
Asus A7V133 motherboard
CPU FanOption 2
AMD Duron 1.3Ghz
Asus A7V133 motherboard
CPU FanWhich option is better? I'm planning to overclock, but I only have PC100 RAM and 250 watt power supply. I'm sure the Duron will run under 250watts, but not sure if the Athlon will do so. I might get a bigger power supply if I have to, but since my max budget is $75, I don't want to spend all on upgrading my ancient desktop.

At equal memory speeds a 1.3g duron equals a 1.0g athlon

I agree that you should go with the Athlon. It has 4 times as much L2 cache (256k versus 64k).
I run an Athlon Thunderbird with a 250 watt power supply. It should be enough.
Don't get the budget chip. Get the Thunderbird.
Have fun and good luck.
