Asus X502CA is lifeless

Specs: Windows 8, 4gb
I recently bought an ASus X502ca laptop (i3) as a faulty item hoping to be able to fix it. It powers on and the LEDs light up but there is absolutely no sign of the fan starting up and nothing on the screen or an external monitor. It does seem to complete a POST as the dvd drive that I connected externally (USB) seems to react when the laptop is connected to the charger. The laptop powers on as soon as you connect to the charge and seems to be by-passing the power on/off switch . I bought this hoping that it just needs a bios flash but that hasnt worked. The laptop has integrated (soldered) Ram ,. So I cannot swap the Ram to test it. Any ideas what could be wrong with it?

The Motherboard is likely toast, and you found it as you did because no one else thought it worth the time or money. Sometimes you get lucky.......sometimes you don't.

To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!
