Hi all! New in here, so I'll try not to post this question into an inappropriate forum... :S

So, I just bought a motherboard: ASUS P5GD1 which I think it's great...

anyway... I have a P5 @ 3.0, ati radeon X600 pro, audigy 2 zs platinum and more goodies, but those should be hits for my question... Anyway, all of saden, my computer just wouldn't open! I have two HDD full of data both of them, where in the master one I had Windows XP pro (English). After the boot sequence, and after the screen where windows loads, I get a message: "system/boot/ file loading failed. File is either corrupted or unwritable" (or something really similar to this...) :S

anyway, So as you can all understand I can no way get into windows! I can't enter windows neither safe mode, or last known configuration...

I tried to set up windows again (even though I'll kill myself if I loose any data from the current HDD, but anyway...) and I boot normally from the cd-rom with Windows 2000, and I would afterwards install Windows XP, since my WINXP cd is NOT bootable

anyway, here comes the problem with the motherboard... After the WIN2000 cd loads everything I get a message to repair or setup a new installation, and I get the message: "No HDD found installed into your system. Hit F3 to reboot!"...

I have the motherboard's cdrom if anything is needed from in there...

Can anyone please help?

I just DONT want to loose anything from the current hdd, I just want to repair this problem, or maybe install WINXP OVER the current system and keep the current data!

If this is impossible, can you please tell me how to format my HDD and re-install WINXP?

Thaaaaaaaanks in advance!

Why is your WinXP CD not bootable? Is this the proceedure you used to install XP the first time? What file system are you using, NTFS or FAT32?

You still don't explain why your XP disk isn't bootable. If it truly isn't bootable then it may be a defective or corrupted disk.

One more time, Are you stating that you can boot to your Win2000 CD but using the same CDrom drive you can't boot from your WinXP CD?

YES! Simple enough, because the WINXP cd that I got is UPGRADE version only!

Can't I work something with Win2k disk or something, restoring my machine, WITHOUT having to format my hdd?

I am not an XP user but I believe that your CD should still be bootable. You may need to perform a repair of your installation. I believe if you boot to the XP CD this will be one of your options. Have you ever tried to boot to this CD?

Of course I've tried that before! :(

Anyway, I think that the problem is that the motherboards "Needs" something more that a simple ntfs bootable cd... don't you think?

The files that make the disk bootable are all thats needed. The rest of the needed files reside on the CD. Why do you think your Win2000 CD works?

You said that you can boot to this CDrom when using Win2000 CD. Do you mean that you can't boot to your WinXP CD disk? Have you tried? Boot to your BIOS and verify that your hardrives are setup correctly. When you first start your computer the POST screens that flash by tell you information about your hardware and software. Do you see any messages about your harddrives then? If Win2000 CD can't see any harddrives then there is another issue here.

ALL WinXP CDs ARE bootable!!!!! Why yours doesn't boot is unexplainable unless it's defective.

I have the exact mobo and I had to download and make a floppy with the RAID drivers on it. It's THE ONLY WAY to get the mobo to recognize the hard drive. If I'm understanding this all, you are trying to use a hard drive with XP on it from another (previous?) computer??? You CAN'T do that. You need to reinstall XP on the new machine fresh. Post back if this is what you are doing and I'll guide you through it.

Ok, pproblem updated...

(winxp cd I had WASNT bootable, but now I found one)

I'm booting from the windows xp cd rom now and I'm hitting f6 when it notices so, in the beggining of windows set up! but NOTHING HAPPENS! I even changed my keyboard... After the "hit F6" notification I get a hi F2 for recovery etc, and when I press F2 to check if it's working or not, unfortunately it works!

Here's the message I get after I boot from my WINXP cd:

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Setup cannot continue. To quit set up press F3...

And this is the message I get when I'm just opening my computer the way it is right now, after the windows loading screen:

(Blue screen):

Stop c00218 {Registry file failure}
The registry cannot find the hive (file)
\systemroot\system 32\config\system or its log or alternate.
It is corrupted , absent or not writable

obviously I have to use a diskette with the drivers of the hdds but I've done that, unfortunately I cant access the F6 menu! I dont know why... :(

You have some 'very' strange MS WinXP installation CDs. It sounds like they might be pirated?

Download a diagnostic from the hard drive manufacturer's web site and make sure your hard drive is working.

I believe the problem is NOT my winxp cds, while the same things happen in win2k cds too!

The problem is that I can't access the F6 menu! why?

Win2000 CD isn't meant to be used with a WinXP installation. If you now have a WinXP CD that is bootable, I recommend you start clean. Format the drive and re-install. Keep in mind the version of XP you are installing MUST be the same version of XP. XP home Retail = XP home Retail, XP pro OEM = XP pro OEM. Get the idea. I too get the idea that these CDs are DLs from some warez site. That would explain the other disk not being bootable.

Manolis

Why did you start a new thread on this same problem. If you don't want to try what folks here recommend, why not go somewhere else. We have better things to do.

NO it is not OK. You were told that ALL WinXP CDs are bootable. If your CD won't boot then it MUST be defective. If it is defective that may be the cause of ALL your problems. You can't pick and choose which issues you which to address and which to ignore. If you now have a bootable WinXP CD you can start over. That proceedure means that you need to FIRST look in the BIOS to see if you have the options set for SATA first and enabled. It was assumed that you had this because you did have XP installed. Copy the SATA drivers to a floppy disk and then set the computer to boot to the CD. When asked if you have any SCSI or RAID software to install hit F6. provide the floppy and follow the on screen prompts.

thanks, but as you read above, I have a bootable cd now, and everything is exactly the same!!

I copied the drivers into a floppy, but I can't hit F6 during the beggining of the set up, while I don't know why! My keyboard works fine!

Like I said originally Manolis.....I had the same problem and this is how I solved it:
I went to Asus and made a floppy disk with the RAID drivers for the P5GD1 mobo. I also had to use a PS/2 KEYBOARD instead of a USB keyboard because it would not recognize it and there is no setting in the BIOS to change it. Have the floppy ready and use a PS/2 keyboard. Load the XP disk and hit the F6 key when prompted to load third party RAID drivers. Let it install the rest of the drivers and it will then ask for the floppy. Insert the floppy and allow it to do it's thing. It SHOULD WORK. If you have problems with the install because of the HDD coming from another computer then you will have to do a FRESH install. But trust me, the only way that mobo is going to recognize the hard drive is to make the floppy I suggested. Also, contrary to what "seems" right, make sure the optical drives are connected to the primary IDE port and the hard drives are connected to the primary RAID port. The colors might throw you off. The secondary RAID (the one on the side) is not used unless you connect more than two HDD's. GOOD LUCK BRO!

Thanks mate! I've already done this yesterday night, but unfortunately it didn't work either :(

I've changed my keyboard to an old one, F6 was presses succesfully (it did before though but it's ok now), it asked for a floppy with the drivers, I've installed the drivers from the asus cdrom into a floppy, I insterted the floppy when required, it showed me that it contained four drivers for SATA hdds and I load all of them! Setup then continues, BUT I come up to the very same screen... Do you think that I probably load the wrong drivers or something?... :(

Can you send me a url of the drivers that I should have in that disk?

The disk was formatted into this computer (I mean that I haven't transfer any hdd win installation from a previous computer or something...)
