I just got an ASUS P4S800 motherboard. When I plug the optical drives into the secondary port the motherboard will not recognize them. But when I plug them into the primary using the same cable they will be recognized. The secondary port will not recognize anything. Has anyoneelse had this problem? This is the second board of this type that has given me this problem.

1. do not connect 2 optical drives to the same cable.

2. do not connect 2 hard drives to the same cable.

3. make sure the master or slave jumper is set correctly on the back of the drive(s). Do NOT use cable select.

4. setup your burner as the 2ndary master.

5. make sure your devices are recognized correctly in the BIOS

I have an Asus P4P800S mobo, running a P4 2.1 GHz. I have the HDD as the primary master, a DVD ROM as the secondary master and a CD burner as the secondary slave. Everything works just fine. I keep things that way as the HDD runs at UDMA5 and the two optical drives are much slower.

1. I dosconnected the second drive from the cable - no dice
2. I only have one hard drive
3. The jumper is set to master
4. I have the drive hooked up to the secondary IDE port with the jumper set to master.
5. Still not being recognized by the mobo.

Maybe this will make it more clear:

primary master = HDD w/OS
primary slave = DVD-ROM
2ndary master = CD burner
2ndary slave = none

That didnt work either. It didnt detect anything that way.

Are you changing the jumpers on the back of the drives?
