Specs: Windows XP, P4 2.4 Gig/ 2 Gig Ram
Hi all,
Arrived home from a weekend away to find a weird pattern on my display. Looked like an old tv with bad horozontal sync. Blue screen with white zigzag across it. No boot up, nothing.
Tried a different ps , still no boot up, but one time I got audio that sounded like "failure
CP (or) Tp test...over & over. After several more tries, that msg went away, but still no joy. Now, when i press the start button, the HDD's (raid array) spins up, HDD LED shows no activity, the the machine turns itself off after about 20 seconds
I also swapped out the CPU, no change. I did find a few caps on the video board with split tops & starting to ooze electrolyte.
The machine is a P4 2.8Ghz running XP in Raid one configuration. My question is: I have info on the HDD's that I really don"t want to lose. It might be time to upgrade, but I want to use my old HDD's & don't want to lose the data on them. Can this be done & how?
Thank you for your time,

You know the video card is bad so why would you swap the CPU? The fact that you're getting a display (even a garbled one) means the CPU is working. Replace the video card.

And why would you leave your PC switched on while you went away for the weekend? Did you leave your TV on too? Your stereo system?
