Hi,
I have an ASUS P4B-Mx motherboard that was running perfectlt fine with a 1.7ghz CPU. I put a 2.0Ghz CPU in just to make sure the 2.0GHz CPU worked and it did, it ran fine.
Now here's the problem, when i put the 1.7Ghz Chip back in it would not boot! No beeps or anything just a blank screen! So i then put the 2.0ghz chip back in and it worked.
I have tested the 1.7Ghz chip in other computers and it works...but just not in this computer!
Does anyone know whats wrong?
Thanks

this may be your problem:
when you install the 2ghz cpu your bios sets itself to run with a 2ghz processor
but when you put the 1.7ghz processor back in your bios is still set to run at 2ghz

so in order to fix this you must stick in the 2ghz cpu and turn on your computer, then go into the bios and set your fsb so that your cpu will run a 1.7ghz, then restart and shutdown, finally install the 1.7ghz cpu and see if it works

what is painfully obvious to one person might be just painful to the other

Hi Thax for the reply,
In the bios it will not let me change the fsb but i have taked the CMOS battery out and left it out for around 2hrs and that didn't help either.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

It sounds like you might have zapped the 1.7.
