What's the difference between an ASUSP4 533MHZ MOTHERBOARD, and a G-Pro 533MHZ motherboard? Which one is better? How much better?

I'm getting a computer that has a G-Pro motherboard, and they're offering me the option to upgrade to ASUS for an extra $165? Is it worth it? I'm not going to be using the computer for major gaming or anything...maybe a few games, but mostly internet, word processing, music, misc. stuff. It's coming with a 2.6 Intel Processor

An extra $165? Sounds like you are getting ripped off.

Asrock advertises "value motherboards" (cheap). They may be ok, but I do not know for sure.

Asus is my favorite brand motherboard. You can get a good one for around $100, depending on the options you want.

I recommend you go to www.newegg.com and search the motherboards. Look at the descriptions and reviews. Look at the features. Look at the MUCH LOWER PRICES.

No need to upgrade, as far as I can tell. No more than what you'll be doing. You'll be more than satified without the upgrade I'm sure.

Asus is also my favourite brand for motherboards. I have the P4B533 and im completely satisfied with it.
But since it's an quite 'old' model I don't think it's worth $165 extra.
I understand that you're buying an complete pc, so upgrading later might not be an option.
I think it's better not to take the Asus board because of the price.
But for what it's worth, Asus also has a decent on-board sound system, im not sure if you have an additional sound card. If so, use it, but you'll live with the onboard sound.

the G pro is a micro ATX board, ASUS is full ATX. For the extra money, they should give you a better power supply as well as a better mobo. maybe more.

If you can get out of the deal, do it & keep shopping. Otherwise ask exactly what the extra money will get you. A full size ATX board will give you more slots at least.

G-pro is a division of ASUS. http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,106904,00.asp
