Comment:

I recently bought a ASUS A7V333-X motherboard and an Athlon 1800+ processor and DDRAM 512M/DDR333 PC-2700 RAM stick. I set the processor for 1533 Mhz and booted up. It shut down immediately. I then set it to 1150 Mhz and it booted up ok. I found out that this motherboard had a patch (AV333X03.AWD) which I installed. I then tried the 1533Mhz setting again and the machine hesitates when I start it up. The on/off lite blinks. Sometimes it continues on and sometimes it shuts itself off and when I start it up again it takes me straight to the bios. A message comes up saying that "During the last boot up, your system hung for an improper CPU speed setting. Your system is now wlrking in Safe Mode. To optomize the system performance and reliability, make sure the CPU speed conform to the specifications of your CPU." What are they talking about? This motherboard is supposed to be able to handle a CPU thats rated over 2000 Mhz! And it can't handle 1533 Mhz? Also, it came with on board audio and the mic doesn't work and I've tried everything I can think of. I have emailed ASUS numerous times and they refuse to answer me. I have tried calling them using 502-995-0883 and its hopeless. All I get is recordings. Is there anyone out there that has had this problem with ASUS motherboards and if so can they help me with mine. Its either that or this thing is going back to newegg.com very soon.

Try setting the CPU speed on the mobo to 1800, to match the CPU.

Regarding the mic problem, have you installed the drivers that came with the mobo? If you've done that, are you certain that the microphone you are using is functioning? Get a microphone that you know works and try that. I hope my suggestions help. Good luck.

Just built my own 'puter using that board.Running an xp2000 chip . Check the bios for a speed setting for the chip and see if it's set to 133mgz or 266mgz. I have mine set at 133 mgz altough the chip specification says it will run at 266. Don't really understand what that relates to because i'm running pc2700 ram at 333mgz but ya might want to take a look at it. Also my chip run's at 1667mgz so it's not overclocked. Check you jumpers setting on you mainboard also.
