Asus laptop wont turn on - is it fried?

Specs: Windows xp
I plugged my powercord to my laptop and all of a sudden it started to smell like smoke. now my laptop wont turn on. the powercord indicator light still shines when plugged into the wall, but when i plug it back into my laptop the powercord indicator light starts to blink and my laptop does charging light comes on. its just dead...

Smoke is never good. Sounds like it fried. Nothing you can fix yourself unless you've done lots repairs. So weigh the cost of taking it to a shop for a diagnostic vs. replacement.....take your power, perhaps it is oversupply voltage which fried it, or the DC Jack was loose and shorted things out.....needs tested.
