Asus G73 won't power up, but lights come on

Specs: Windows 7, i7, 8 GB RAM
I was in the middle of playing a video game, then the screen started turning on and off and it seemed to be alt-tabbing itself, because i kept getting a glimpse of the desktop. Then the screen turned off but the lights on the laptop stayed on. Now, when i hit the power button to turn on the laptop, the laptop lights come on, but the screen stays off, and i don't think that windows is loading because i don't hear the welcome sound. I tried hooking the laptop to a TV via HDMI cable, but nothing showed up. I also tried removing the battery and AC adapter, holding the power button for 30 seconds, and powering it up, but it made no difference. I read some other threads with similar problems, but haven't found a fix for it. I really hope there is a fix for this that I can achieve myself, because I am on military deployment and shipping the laptop off for maintenance is not really an option. Thanks for your help!

Oh yeah, to update the issue, I was able to get back into Windows by letting the battery die completely and letting the computer sit dead for 1-2 hours. Then I plug in the charger and it will boot up fine, until I play a game or watch a video or something. Interestingly enough, i don't have this issue when i am on battery power, only when the computer is plugged in. Anyone know what could be causing this? I was thinking maybe it was something to do with the power state that i use when the computer is plugged in, 'Power4Gear High Performance.'
