I have this CD writer and it no longer can read anything, even with 'DVDInfoPro' it says that "no media is present"! i have checked the cables and connections and all things are ok. i can even eject the cd drive. how can i figure out what is the problem with it?
DVDInfo Pro also provides information on all CD players & burners
It's just a name, I don't believe he's confused as to what sort of drive it is
Consider the possibility that it's dirty or broken
I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.

As jboy said that DVDInfoPro can detect cd writers too(although i have even tried 'Discinfo') So what is the problem? is it because of the lens? should i open the drive myself?(since the guarantee period is finished!) Anyway tell me doctor i can bear it! ;)

Sorry. i apoligise.
Have used DVD Info Pro for ages now and didn't know it supported CD's.
I wouldn't bother opening... not too many user servicable parts in there.
Try Cleaning it with a good quality CD lens cleaning kit.
