Hi, I've recently bought a custom built computer from Cyberpower Inc. The price was reasonable but unfortunately the quality was not.
On arrival, the computer did not stay alive for long. We got lucky and the computer worked perfectly for the first 7 hours. We had windows XP and software’s successfully installed. There are constant sporadic crashes without error messages or indication. The computer restarts in any interval between 10sec to 10 hours.
I’ve tried solutions including improving cooling to the CPU and mobo. Flashing the BIOs with recent updates. Underclocking the computer. Tried every possible option in the bios setting. I am still trying to locate the exact device causing the problem of the computer. Could it be that the MB is grounding itself to the case?
I'm going to swap video cards, swap motherboard, swap memory, and any other devices.

Spec:
2200 Athlon on Asus A7V8X-X
512 DDR 2700 Elixir
80GIG HD Maxtor
Gainward GFX 5200 128MB
Onboard audio
420watts Power supply

The temperature reaches max of 110 F which shouldn't be a problem.

Anybody else experiencing similar problems with similar hardware? The computer is brand new. I hope to get this fixed within 7 days, otherwise I would have to return the computer in part or whole.

Thanks,
Tommy

Hi Tommy

I don't think your mobo is grounding as I think that would kill it altogether.

When it crashes, is it literally like the power going off for a split second (so that you're suddenly back at the BIOS screen? Or does it hang?

If it's option (1) then it could be that your PSU is faulty. I don't think it's underpowered, 420W should be fine for that setup.

If it's tending to hang I'd say change memory first, then cpu then mobo. Good luck.

WinXP has a cute way of avoiding the BSOD. Instead of displaying an error message it reboots. To see what the error is causing the reboot, do the following:
Start->Control Panel->System->Advanced->StartUp and Recovery->Settings->. Then under "System Failure" uncheck "Automatically restart".
