I am building a system for the first time and think I have just about everything done except I can't figure out how to get the power button connected the mobo. I have a diagram that came with it and a cable from a previous computer, but I don't know what each wire represents. Is there any stardard color scheme for this?

Also, just wondering, if the LED on this mobo comes on when I connect the power supply, does that mean everything is working properly?

Do you mean to suggest that you have a separate Power On switch, not connected to the case?

Typically there should be a group of PINS - for connectors to the case mounted items - to plug in HDD LED, RESET SWITCH, POWER SWITCH etc.

These case mounted devices have small plugs [mostly 2 pin] with the respective function printed on them. This makes it easy for you to identify which plug goes onto what connecting pin[s].

Look at the ASUS manual to make sure this is done correctly: failure to do so may damage the motherboard and power supply.

If you don't have a manual go to:

If your 'system case' is from an older style computer then it could be that the ATX connector and CASE Connectors are the wrong type. Take care, it may be worth the extra US$50 to buy a decent 'modern' case with the correct Power Supply and for the MBoard and Memory etc.

The parts I'm using are fairly new - I mean less than a year old.

I have the diagram for the mboard and understand it, but I cannot figure out which wires go into which pins. I have nothing saying, for example: the blue wire is for the Power Led or the red wire is for the Speaker Connector.

By the way, the power button is connected to the machine.

Does this make sense? Is there anywhere I can find out about this?

Does you A7V333 board have 2 rows of 10 pins
and 1 2-Pin connector beside those that are
on the edge of the board for connecting the case cables (Speaker,HHD LED,POWER LED, POWER ON SWITCH,RESET? If so, read on.
I just assembled 2 ASUS systems, and the case cables went like below.

One of my mainboards has 2 pins vertical for the Hard Drive LED, and the other has 2 pins horizonal for same. On the horizonal HDD LED pins, RED wire is on left pin, and white is on right pin. If vertical, red wire is on bottom pin, and white wire is on top pin.

.HDD White wire on top pin/Red on Botton pin
.LED

The 2 rows of 10 pins for the other case cables are connected as below, and they all work just fine.

Power LED Speaker

.___.___. . . . .___.___.___.

Blu Wht Blu Wht
Power On R/P SW Reset SW

Look real close at the diagram in the manual for your main board and you will see "+" wire indicators. Look then on your board and you might find those same "+" markings, but maybe not. Anyhow, the above works on and ASUS A7N266 and A7N266-VM

Hope this helps, don't give up, you are almost there. Good Luck .

Best Regards,
Highland
