Built a new system to put in my room a couple of weeks ago and while purchasing parts I was going to pick up an A7N8X, like I have in the computer Im on right now. Where I was buying my parts they have the Deluxe model, I had some extra cash and figured "Why not?". After getting my system together and installing Win XP on it I run for a couple of days, then have to restart for a program install. A blue screen comes up where the XP load screen should be, it says that theres been an ACPI compatibility problem and that I should update my BIOS. Having 2 computers it was easy, I flashed my BIOS from 1006 to 1008. The problem persists. Restart after restart. I emailed ASUS and they told me that I should change my RAM frequency to higher or lower to see if that was the problem. I did, and it didnt help. Ive been searching the internet high and low, people seem to have this problem, but a solution is never presented. Can anyone give me a solution that doesnt involve a format and a reinstall of windows? Ive got a good deal of stuff on that harddrive that I dont want to reinstall, as it took many hours.
Please help
*Note: On occasion the computer doesnt hate me and manages to get to windows. But the ratio of shut downs/restarts that wind up getting through to windows to the amount of the restarts and shut downs that just bring me back to that friendly blue screen is in the neighborhood of 35:1.

I would suggest swapping RAM and PSU and see if the problem still persists.

Swap ram eh. Alright well theres 2 sticks of 256 DIMM in there. Ill give that a shot, PSU is a little extra work, so Ill try that as more of a last resort.

I also have this mobo and after a month it sits for 4 minutes on the POST splash screen before going through the POST sequence and booting. It now takes 3 minutes for Win98 to shut down. Any suggestions on that?

Id say format your computer, it happens with Win 98, slows down after a while defrag usually doesnt help.

I swapped RAM and started the computer with just RAM, Vid Card, Mobo, PSU, Processor, HD. Same problem. ASUS talked to me no help there either, any more suggestions?
