Comment:

I just installed a new Asus A7n8X motherboard with a new 80 Gb hd, Corsair XMS 2700 512 DDR, ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128 Meg video card and a creative Labs Audigy x-gamer video card. All these parts are new and seem to work seperately but once l put everything together and turn the system on, the CPU fan starts, the hd light stays on constantly and l get a collection of long beeps (sounds a lot like a truck backing up). I can't post to BIOS and the system keeps beeping. I've tried taking everything down to the bare bones but still the same. Does anyone know what the long beeps mean? I'd really appreciate the help.

Sounds like a memory problem, check and see if its inserted corectly or maybe its a bad stick, try a diferent stick.

I've tried the memory in all 3 slots and it clicked very nicely. Still beeping though. Thing is, all my friends seem to be running sdram, so l can't just go borrow a stick to see if it works. Should l go looking for new memory or could it be a mobo problem? Do the long beeps mean a memory problem?

Well, it could just be a bad motherboard.
Does it have an Award bios?

Continuous beeps with an Award Bios indicate a problem with the CPU.

Check the CPU is properly seated and the fan is correctly installed and seated properly.

I tested the cpu in another system and it worked. I also tried another cpu on this mobo (an AMD 2000+) and l had the same problem. I checked the Award Bios site and the only thing it told me was that most beeps are probably the memory. Any suggestions?

Well, you could buy a new stick of ram, try it and if it still does not work then take the ram back to the store. (doesn't seem right to me) Or you could try you're ram in someone elses computer. But you did say all you're friends have sdram though, you must know someone with DDR!

Interesting. I hadn't thought about the harddrive. It seems to power up (i can hear it) and the light on the front of the case comes on then goes if in about 10-15 seconds. I assumed it was fine but l'll check it out.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys. It turned out to be a defective Mobo in the end. I got another one and now everything works the way it is supposed to.
