Solved Aspire 5742 failing to reboot.

March 13, 2015 at 15:33:35
Specs: Windows 7
Aspire 5742

Initial problem was the laptop wouldn't boot up.
It wouldn't auto repair itself.

Having reloaded the 4 recovery discs successfully the laptop says it will reboot which it does but immediately displays this message
Broadcom UNDI PXE-2.1 v12.2.0
copyright (c) 2000-2009 Broadcom corporation
copyright (c) 1997-2000 Intel corporation
All rights reserved
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

If you put the disc in it then loads some files and goes back to the restore menu.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Presumably you have set the disc drive ahead of the C drive in BIOS and are powering on the computer with a disc already in place. If so either there is either something wrong with the discs or the disc drive.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thank you for the reply.
I believe the C drive in the Bios is correct but would you confirm the process step by step for me to check please.
The disc's are reading and look to be loading OK so my initial thoughts of a duff Hard drive could well be the issue.

Under the "Boot" heading you should see a list of your drives. If the disc drive is at the top then you have it right and, as you say, something is wonky probably the hard drive. See page 37 of the manual here:

If the boot order is set to C drive first you should not see any disc drive activity unless it has moved on because it couldn't find the C (first bootable) drive.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
