What is the consensus on refurbished computers? Are they a good deal, or should they be avoided? I just want a basic desktop. Thanks for any replies.

Read our consensus about refurbished computers HERE. What we've discussed nearly four years ago has not changed today.

Tirger Direct mostly sells referb pc's. In a lot of cases they are fine, because they are checked over before going back on the market. Referb pc's are either returned pc's from a consumor, used pc's from an office or display models at a retail store. So you have 3rd party vendors like Tiger Direct buy them cheap off of where they get them from and either fix them or upgrade them and then resell them on their site at a reasonable price.

What you don't get from a refurb pc is a is a standard warrenty. that comes from a 3rd party vendor like a tiger direct.

Refurbs can be fine. But purchase from a well known company to increase your chances of getting something that is not a lemon.
