I have had one for three years and there has been no problem with it - at least no problems that I haven't caused myself.

However, like most OEM computers, parts do tend to be expensive. £140.00 (UKP) for a 30Gb hard disk.

Cheap for complete systems : yes

Why? : becuase they are such a large
company the sign exclusive deals and buy
bulk so that the prices they pay are much
lower than those the general public do.

Easy to upgrade : no

Why? : To force you into buying a new PC
instead of a major upgrade, many of the parts,
such as cases, power supplies, and often motherboards are specific to Dell, and to not follow the standard form. So you can add a shiny new sound card to a Dell, yes, probably a new graphics card too, if the mother board has the right slot. However putting in a new motherboard can be very very difficult.

Dell laptops should be fine though, as
no-one really upgrades their laptop, apart
from the odd stick of RAM here and there
which can be added to almost all laptops,
including ones from Dell.

Hope that helped, AMO, lol

If you think Dell laptops attract thieves, am sure you probably won't consider getting an Apple laptop, and with apple still putting out good laptops, that should still hold true today.
