Hi,

I have faced some problem regarding Arcserve backup. I have a job that is running backup on 2 servers (seq 1 and seq 2). But after completing the first backup on server 1, seq 1...backup for server 2, seq 2 failed. It state W3828 - Unable to find this media or blank media (Media=Tuesday, Seq=2). I have change the timing between the Seq 1 and Seq 2, enable VSS and restart services but still, it fails. Any one know the root cause of it? Summary after backup Total Errors/Warning: 0/1. Need advice!

Hi
I would verify that you are on the latest build of the version of Brightstor for which you are running. This would include any device update fixes CA has published.

For the warning you are receiving I would verify the following:
1. Verify that the media pool has enough media in the scratch set.
As a test I would do a quick erase plus on a few media and add them manually to the scratch set.
2. Make sure that when the job was submitted that in the destination tab the media destination has an asterisk (*) in the media name field.
3. Check which backup options are selected for additional media
Try using the option “Overwrite same media, blank media first, then any media”

4. You should also verify that the database is not corrupt or too large. Verify under the database manager what the type of database is being utilized and its size. If you are using the VLDB database it is imperative to maintain it and keep it ideally under 2GB.
Check CA’s site http://supportconnect.ca.com for technical docs on this subject.
You may need to initialize the database and recreate the VLDB and see if the media warning is resolved.
