AOC LM729 LCD monitor Keeps going blank.

Specs: Windows XP
I bought an AOC LM729 17" LCD monitor used and it has an issue. The monitor seems fine and when it does display it is very clear and bright, no visual defects. For some reason though when it is turned on it will display the incoming signal for 3 seconds then go blank. It does this on one pc and a laptop. On bootup it will display for a few seconds, then go blank then come back on, and go blank again up until the Welcome Screen on Windows XP comes up then it will go blank again. When it goes blank the green power indicator remains on. If I turn it off and turn it back on it does the same thing. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Did you know it had a problem when you bought it? Did you see it working before buying? I suspect repair will be a job for a tech and cost more than the price of a new monitor.

Well, I bought it for 3 dollars from a thrift store. I though that if it works then I got a deal, and if it didn't then I could try to fix it. I have heard that a capacitor can go bad on this kind of monitor and that replacing that will solve the issue. I am aware that it will cost money to have someone fix it, this is why I asked here in order to fix it myself.
