Anyone know how ot disable internal speaker on a Dell Inspiron 5000e laptop. It really pisses me off. Every time it boots up there is one and sometimes two loud beeps. Haven't found anything in bios. It doesn't respond to the volume control in windows (either muting it or lowering the volume). It's loud and annoying and I'm about to smash this POS with a hammer!

The joys of having PCMCIA/PC Card slots, that is what is causing the beeps. If you insert or remove one of the PCMCIA/PC Cards you will hear the same beeps, nice and loud. I know you could open up the system and kill the speaker that way but then you would kill all of your system sounds. I'm not sure of a way to disable the sounds, you are the first person I've ever heard complain of these beeps to be honest so I've never looked into it. If I find a better answer than opening the laptop and disconnecting the speaker, I'll let ya know.

This really sucks - makes it impossible to turn my laptop on in class! If there are no pcmcia cards in it it doesn't beep on bootup? I am not inserting anything ot cause this but they are already in there.

You may be able to disable the beeps (leaving the other sounds as is) from...
START - SETTINGS - CONTROL PANEL - SOUNDS & MULTI MEDIA.
