Any ideas of what the actual problem was?

Specs: Vista
My 10 month old Acer Aspire desktop suddenly crashed. I took it to a computer repair guy and he said that the hard drive had failed. So, I called Acer because it was still under warranty. They sent out a new hard drive, which I installed and I was back up and running. This new hard drive worked for about 3 months then the same problem happened again. So, this time when I called Acer they said that I had to send in the whole unit, which I did. This time they said that they had to replace the motherboard, which they did. This time the hard drive was not replaced.

I was wondering if anyone has an idea what would have caused this to happen? and if it was actually an hard drive failure in the first place? or does motherboard failure cause hard drive failure? I am just trying to make sense of this!!
Thanks for your input!!

"the same problem happened again" how did u know it's the same problem?
If the repair guy said the hdd was bad then believe him(replacement hdd fixed the problem).

If replacing the original HD solved the problem then it obviously was bad. This could have been caused by the motherboard. The second failure may or may not be related to the first. This sort of thing is difficult to determine, even when you can physically examine the hardware. Otherwise it is all speculation.

@ kuwese. Ahh because it did exactly the samething as the first time! To the tee!! Clearly, you did not read my post. I never said that I didn't believe him! Why wouldn't I? The unit is still under warranty! I was seeking the help of a professional the first time to ensure that in fact that was the problem and not something that was easily fixed.

@ LMiller. Thanks for READing my post and responding appropriately! Good to know that possibly one could be related to one another!! I was thinking that I must have really bad luck and picked the wrong box! Thank Goodness I bought it from Costco because that provide additional warranty @ no cost! Thanks for your time!
