Hi again guys.
Not sure what happened here.
I adjusted a couple of settings in bios,
now i cant get the damn thing to boot up past the logo screen.
Ive tried resetting cmos, with battery in and out.
Taken all my ram out and tried, and mobo gave me warning beeps, tried with different sticks in different slots and nothing.
Ive even taken my cpu out cleaned and repasted it.
If i hit the tab key to clear the logo picture while booting it gets this far then stops.

Is it cpu or mobo..????

What did you change the in the BIOS? Have you tried resetting to the defaults?

You pictures are too small to see. When clearing the CMOS you need to have the power totally disconnected from the mains. Best to use the onboard MBoard jumper intended for that purpose.

Once the computer POSTS you need to immediately enter the BIOS screens and reset some values there.

If your MBoard has integrated graphics that will be the video to use.

Thats the problem, im not getting any post.
And cant get into bios at all.

I have just tried booting it with all hard drives and dvd drives unplugged, and taken out one of my graphic cards leaving the other for the monitor as i dont have any onboard.I unplugged my speakers, ethernet, all usb devices and even my mouse,
leaving just mobo, cpu, ram, gpu and keyboard.
I changed cmos battery and reset it. but it will still only boot part way.
It says main processor: AMD Athlon blah blah
Memory testing: 3932160k OK
CPU0 Memory information :Dual channel,128 bit

And stops at that.
At the bottom it says del to enter setup,F11 to enter boot menu, but nothing works when i press any keys..

If you cleared the CMOS by removing the battery you need to boot into the BIOS (del) and reset some values. Your boot order, the date and time and IF using a USB KBoard there is a setting in there to Enable USB hardware support. If you can't enter the BIOS using your USB KBoard you need to temporarily connect a PS/2 KBoard in order to enter the BIOS.

Try tapping the del key every second or two as it's booting.

You probably didn't clear CMOS at all. Did you unplug the power cord before removing the battery? If you have a clearCMOS jumper, try using that instead. The power must be unplugged.

yup done all that.
removed cmos battery, power cord from mains, set cmos jumper from pins 1&2 to 2&3 left for 10 mins , pressed the start button a couple of times put the jumper back to pins 1&2 relaced battery even used a new mains lead but still only getting partial boot and still not getting into bios...

The board by the way is
ECS KN1 SLI LITE bios ver 1.1e 07/18/2006

And you still didn't indicate if you are using a USB KBoard.

No USB keyboard.
I have at the moment got a basic PS/2
keyboard plugged in which flashes all the
lock lights on it when i first press the start button, but no matter how fast or slow i tap the del key i still cant get into bios.

Just for the record i have also tried a USB keyboard but still no good.

What exactly would happen if it was my cpu.?
Would it try and boot or would it just do nothing, Im not sure it is the mobo, I tried it with all the ram removed and i got the alarm beeps like i should.

Im stumped, CPU is all it can be is what im guessing.

One thing to check is to verify the clear CMOS jumper is actually in the RUN position. You do have the PS/2 keyboard connected directly to the correct PS/2 KBoard port?

Did you by chance flash the BIOS? You state the MBoard is the SLI extreme version but the picture you show says SLI lite version.

Thats the confusion i have always had with this mobo.
I got the manual at hand and the only difference i noticed is that the extreme one is the .b version that will take dual core. but its still called KN1 SLI lite for some reason.
And i havent flashed the bios sinse the last update aver a year ago.

OP, if you just paste the link into the post, it will automatically be posted as an anchor. That way, you only have to copy the URL and not create your own "link". Justin did that to alleviate the problem of "super wide" posts. So, you might want to edit those posts to make it easier for people to read the thread.

From your screen, if you press Del what happens? Doesn't it take you into the BIOS?

You may be waiting too long to start continously tapping the Del key. Sounds like the keyboard is working.

ive been pressing it from the moment i touch the power button.
I dont think there is a solution.

I was thinking about upgrading anyway ive had this one nearly 2 years.

I think this thread can be closed, i just ordered a new bundle deal.

Asus M2N-E SLI nForce 500 Motherboard - Socket AM2 + Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (2 X3.0Ghz ) + Corsair 2 x 1GB PC6400 Dual Channel DDR2 (TWIN2X2048-6400)

I just hope the build goes ok.

Thanks for the help every one but i think this one has gone to PC heaven.

BB.

Holding the key down is incorrect. You need to continously tap the key as soon as you start the computer.
