When using a anti static wristband where do you fix the other end(crocidile snap or whatever its called) is it on the metal part of the case and if it is do you need it pluged in with the power on or what
er i don't think u need the power on, the case will be ok, its just to earth yourself incase of static elec. Usually if ur dealing with electronics all the time then there would be a mat with the static wrist band connected to it. A wrist band is a good investment if u play around with ur PC alot but for me i just make sure i earth myself by touching the power supply before i remove and install anything. hehe at least thats what i got told to do...
There are some people who say that you have to have the AC cord connected and plugged in to the wall. The rear power switch off. They say that's to connect the case to a real ground. That does sound reasonable. Personally I don't use a grounding strap.

To ground properly via the case, the power cable needs to be connected as the grounding goes out on the earth wire.
However please note:-
a) the ON/OFF switch does not effect the earth lead
b)some power cables are 2 core and do not have an earth
c)sometimes (eg working on psu) the power lead should be disconnected
To assist the grounding I also wear rubber underwear, but if this becomes general knowlege I could get arrested!
