Hi,

There are three possible scenarios that would result.

1) Your front side bus is not set correctly, lowering your CPU's effectiveness
i.e. FSB set at 333 instead of 400
2) You aren't using the correct ram modules. i.e. using PC2700 modules when pc3200 should be used

3) you truly have a 1.5 GHZ processor.

It's not 2.2, it's 2200+...there are a few different versions

2200+ Tbred = 1800mhz @ 13.5 x 133mhz

2200+ Thorton = 1800mhz @ 13.5 x 133mhz

2200+ Sempron = 1500mhz @ 9.0 x 166mhz

Sounds to me like you have a Sempron & it's running at the correct speed. If you haven't updated the BIOS, it will be detected as an AthlonXP instead of a Sempron. Try running CPUZ to find out exactly which CPU you have & what the clock settings are:

jam,yes its a AMD XP2200 cos i still have the box with me.but seriously i have no idea what's a sempron.so probably u would have tp enlighten me.
tony,as i told jam,i truly have a 2200,and i doubt its a problem with the ram modules as i got the technician to fix it up and i remembered before that my comp showed a 2200 instead of 1500.so would be a FSB problem

dude, download the program I recommeded...CPUZ v1.24 or v1.25. Unzip it & double click on CPUZ.exe. A small window will pop up with all your CPU info on it

Look what it says for 'Name...probably Athlon XP. Then look what is says for 'Specification'...see if it says Thoroughbred, Thorton, or Sempron.

The 2200+ AthlonXP has a multiplier of 13.5x...if for some reason the FSB where to change, it would drop off to 100mhz (200FSB), possibly 133mhz (266FSB). If it dropped to 100mhz, your speed would be 1350mhz, not 1500mhz.

The only other possibility is you're confusing the performance rating with the actual clock speed. A 2200+ does not run at 2.2...a 1500+ does not run at 1.5.

Actually, the 1500+ runs at 1333mhz, which is close to 1350mhz. So it's possible that what you're referring to as 1.5 is actually 1500+. If that's the case, you fsb has dropped from 133 to 100...all you'd have to do is go into the BIOS & change it back.

I still recommend you download CPUZ to verify what CPU have & what it's clock settings are

Jam's advice is good.

Do not make any changes without being sure that the settings are wrong. Or you'll be back here with a "Help me, my machine won't boot!!!!!!!!".

Did you call the tech and ask him/her?

One more thing, on my Gigabyte board the FSB 100/133 is controlled by a switch.

to try and help clarify a bit. AMD labels it's CPU with a rating that compares it to Intel CPUs. So An AMD 2200+ is approximately equivalent to an Intel 2200mhz CPU. But the AMD CPU actually runs at a lower speed as shown by Jam in response #2.
