I am making a new PC. I am leaning toward an AMD, but is there an AMD that can stand up to the P4's new 800MHz FSB processors with HT technology? If so, is the cost similiar? What is the AMD processor? If not, will AMD be making a processor to compete with the P4s?

Boogieman,

Either you are oblivious of AMD's high-end Athlon 64 CPU's or you are not really aware of its capabilities, it outperforms the P4 w/ HT period.

There are 2 advantages to using an AMD Proc., One is that the AMD Athlon 64s have a 64bit core, P4's have a 32bit (technology since 386), AMD's Tend to be better for gaming, CAD, and tweaking., Intel for productivity.

I am buying a new PC soon, but I am not sure whether to go for an AMD or Pentium 4.
I would like to undertake various media activities such as listening and watching music/tv, create presentations, but also do school work.
Which would be best to buy? AMD or P4?
