AMD Files Suit Against Intel (June 28, 2005)

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has filed a broad antitrust lawsuit against Intel Corp., claiming Intel illegally maintains a monopoly in the PC processor market.

AMD, which announced the suit on Tuesday, offered a long list of examples in which it says Intel has used its position, including its ability to offer product rebates or to dole out funds, to influence PC makers to limit their purchases of AMD chips.

The suit, filed Monday afternoon in Delaware, claims that Intel has violated the Sherman Antitrust Act, the Clayton Act and the California Business and Professional Code by influencing the product plans of computer makers and therefore limiting consumers' ability to choose between different types of products, AMD said in a statement.

AMD will do the same thing or similar to Intel, if they had to trade places, Intel's action or inactions may not be very ethical, it's not illegal and uncommon with towering businesses.

List of Lists.

FINALLY.

Kick their butts AMD!!!! I will always buy AMD processors, they are every bit as fast (and faster) and cheaper than Intel. And I HATE rip off monopolies. if it wasn't for AMD, computer prices would be off the scale still, buit AMD really stuck it to Intel with the release of AMD K6II processors, and the rest is history.

Hopefully consumers will REALISE they are being screwed by Dell for failing to offer AMD machines at a lower cost than their Intel counterparts.

It is all a damn MONOPOLY with Microsoft, Intel and Dell. Antitrust, antitrust, antitrust.

Sabertooth. I believe this is more about the 'special deals' that Intel can afford to offer to big businesses, that keep AMD out.

Add that to the fact that Mac are adopting Intel cpus, and it is a little worrying.

You see... British Airways did this to Freddie Laker, and forced him to close his airline, and they TRIED to do it to Richard Branson, but got BUSTED and sued.

Using the Microsoft/Intel 'relationship' to force AMD out is wrong. AMD should be suing Microsoft next. For that matter, so should VIA because XP should detect their chipsets and install drivers, but for some reason they are left out of the XP driver collection. Needless to say, every Intel motherboard and chipset I have encountered seems to install flawlessly.....

Smell a rat?

Well,
I don't know, I think that AMD is doing a right thing. Intel is like a monopoly that tries to win all the business. NO way, if Amd and Intel were gonna compete then Amd is a true Winner.

I hope AMD wins this and sticks it to Intel, but I think this could be a sign that AMD just cant keep up.

AMD extends action against Intel into Japan
by Derek Sooman on Thu 30 Jun 2005, 12:38 PM

In further news to the shock revelation that AMD is suing Intel, it has emerged that AMD have extended their action, filing two suits against Intel in Japan seeking more than $50 million for alleged anticompetitive acts. These stem from the Japan Fair Trade Commission's findings in March that Intel violated the country's antimonopoly act. AMD has also sued Intel in the Tokyo District Court seeking millions of dollars in damages for various anticompetitive acts in addition to what is covered by the Japan Fair Trade Commission decision.

The Tokyo High Court suit follows the Japanese Fair Trade Commission's findings in March that Intel's Japan subsidiary violated the Antimonopoly Act. The JFTC Recommendation concluded that Intel's Japanese subsidiary, Intel KK, interfered with AMD Japan's business activities by providing large amounts of funds to five Japanese PC manufacturers (NEC, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Sony, and Hitachi) on the condition that they refuse to purchase AMD processors.
