AMD Sempron problem

Specs: Windows XP, 1.9ghz/512 sdram
good evening. i'm working on a ms-6777 (K7N2GM-L) mobo, i had my barton athlon xp running on it and now i want to use a sempron SDA2600DUT3D cpu. looking on the msi website, i saw that if i update the bios, that will be possible. so i did, i used their 'live update' bios flashing utility from windows, and it worked. i now have the latest bios, version 1.6. here's the link that lead me to think my sempron should work after updating bios.

http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?...

Obviously, since i'm writing this post, the sempron still does not work.. i cleared cmos, i even used the 'safe mode' jumper on the board. what's the deal with this? were they just joking around or something ? :) I'm mad, boy !

I always say it's best to doublecheck.

You realize that a Sempron is a downgrade from an AXP Barton? Are you sure the Sempron works? Are you sure you mounted the HSF correctly? Get it wrong & you can easily fry the CPU.

BTW, the BIOS flash wasn't absolutely necessary, all it did was add the Sempron name & model numbers to the CPU list. Had you not flashed the BIOS, the CPU would have been recognized as an Athlon XP.

Yep, the Sempron should have been recognized by your old BIOS version.

Only a couple reasons it wasn't and jam covered those...bad chip or misinstalled.
