The purpose will be for gaming and maybe getting into some graphic design (making models, maps and stuff)

Definitly the P4. Im not saying AMD is bad, but comparing a P4 and Athlon with the same Clock or Performance rating, and the P4 will be quicker. Get an A if you can, they can be overclocked better.

The p4 will be better in the long run the reason the amd at a slow ghz is faster is because it is runing 32s bit with the p4 is running 64 bits p4 knows that it can just increase the ghz with the 64 bit whith amd with the 32 bit is max out at there +2400 plus the p4 has heat protection so when those heavy heat sinks fall off it will automatily shut its self off plus programs in the future are goeing to run faster in the 64 bit or deeper pipeline whatever.

gaming - most people will say amd
graphic design - intel
intel is reliability...i suppose if you frequently save your graphic designs, you can get by with an amd...but your graphic design data will be better protected by using a p4. p4's are mostly for business/reliability...
