Hi,
I was thinking of uprading my pc, at the moment i'm using AMD 64 3500 with asus A8N SLI motherboard I am not sure weather to upgrade my AMD or go for Intel.
I have been a fan of AMD's for a long time but it look as if intel are way ahead at the moment.

please share me your views
thanks

my views are: why do you feel you need to upgrade, what do you need to do on the PC that a new one will do better then your existing pc?

If you insist on multitasking while encoding video, consider getting a dual core CPU...either an Opteron or an X2. More RAM wouldn't hurt either.

But if your system locks up, it's not because the CPU/board combo is too weak, it's because you have some sort of problem with either your settings, software, or hardware.

If you're willing to shell out $500+ for a new motherboard, CPU, & RAM, plus go thru the hassle of reinstalling Windows, device drivers, etc, then the Core 2 Duo is the better choice.

If it was me, the 1st thing I'd do is find out why the system is freezing up & fix it. But if you feel you need a dual-core CPU to be able to multi-task & don't wanna spend $500+, consider getting something like an A64 X2 4400+ or Opteron 170 for under $200 & just slap it in your current board.
