Alternative is:
Amd cpu
One of 12 different motherboards
Chipsets by Via (that are a nightmare), Nvidia (that have a myriad of conflicts), Sis (probably the only consistently good one), Ali (another outstanding "crap" maker) or perhaps more than one of these on the same motherboard.
You choose it?

Reply: (edit)i prefer intel kuz of the performance with games on win2k. alot of benches i've seenshow intel p4's out do an athlon. but amd is rising above intel with their 64bit line. either way, amd is a better overclocker and is highly capible of outdoing a p4. but intel makes way more stable chips. if you want the stability of a mountain, go intel. if you want the sandy beach, with the wonderful ocean that you can enjoy if you keep the polution off of it, go with amd. amd takes more to keep up, but it is worth the work if you can embrace it. and intel is a good "all round" brand. byw, GO COKE and MR. PIBB!!!! p4 3.0ghz @ 222X15=3330mhz
