It's pretty well documented the AMD Athlon 64's work a lot better for gaming. Looks like your video card could use the upgrade more though...

Yep. Get an NForce4 Ultra based motherboard. DFI makes good boards these days.

Keep in mind a 3700 is overkill. The 3000 right now works great for a mere $150 and can be overclocked like mad. With an NForce4 Ultra mobo, you can upgrade your CPU to an FX55/57 or X2 dual core later when they're more affordable.

THe DFI LanParty NForce 4 Ultra-D is a great motherboard especially in overclocking.

so what your saying is that i should get a 3000+ instead of a 3700+. seems weird that you would want me to upgrade. you might as well go ahead and get the 3700+ for the future. then overclock that to keep up with the future games, instead of buying a $1,000 CPU.(Athlon 64 fx-57)

I'm saying you're not gonna see a whole lot of difference between the two when overclocking, so why spend $120 more for one of them. However, when games become optimized for dual core, you will see a difference upgrading to dual core.

I will say this though. If you're gonna buy something better than an Athlon 64 3000, I would get the 3700. Its real advantage is more L2 cache.

yeah lookin at it yeah, ill admit i have got my 3000+ overclocked with a cheapish fan too to 2.5ghz, which is even over the 3700 but i dont have the 1mb cache qwhich is useful, if u got the money get the 3700, u can always overclock that and get some major speed.

In my opinion, unless you're doing heavy media work, like video editing, etc. the extra cache doesn't make much difference. So personally, I'd take the 3000 and spend the $100 on something else or pocket it for an upgrade to X2 or the FX-57 next year.

If heavy into overclocking, you may want to get the LanParty NForce4 Ultra-D board from DFI instead of the infiniti, but yeah, that's what I'd do.

If you're gonna spend $500+ on a graphics card, then get the Athlon 64 3700. I think both are a waste of money, but those two would be the best performing of the three. Spending $500 on a graphics card without backing it with a high end CPU is pointless.

hyper threading basically tries to make use of the cpu doing more than one operation at once. Sadly works a bit but isnt brilliant but is useful.
