Specs: Windows Vista, Athlon 64 X2 5800+ Dual Core/2Ghz RAM
msconfig, task mgr, cpuz all showing only ONE CORE on my dual core processor. Tried ALL online possible solutions except flashing BIOS. The BIOS utility shows 2 Logical Processors on one physical CPU. Here are the specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5800+ Dual Core 3.0 Ghz
Amer. Meg BIOS v. 1302
2 Gig RAM

PC runs fine on one core EXCEPT gaming. FPS sucks! Can only get 8-10 on big maps full servers. Narrowed it down to core issue. Could I have a bad core?? Could Tiger Direct have sold me a dual core with one bad core?? Or one disabled?

FPS depend more on the video card than the CPU. Which video card do you have? Do you even have a "card"? If you're still using the onboard Radeon 3100, that's your problem.

As for the number of cores, run MSCONFIG, click the BOOT.INI tab, then click Advanced the box next to /NUMPROC checked or unchecked? If it's checked & only shows one processor, uncheck it & reboot.

If you upgraded from a single core to a dual core, you may have to reinstall Windows.
