It is some around a 2.4 gHz but is reckoned (by AMD) to be the same speed as a 3 gHz pentium as it can handle more instructions per clock cycle

It would help greatly if you stated what socket version as 3000+ means very little:

I take it you're building a new system? Because a S939 CPU won't fit in your current system running an 1800+. What motherboard do you have (or are you getting)?

Assuming you're buying the CPU online, all the info is usually listed, especially if you buy from a site like newegg.com. That being said, I wouldn't recommend the 3000+, nor would I suggest buying a CPU for at least another week. AMD is gonna slash prices on it's CPUs...not so much on it's lower end Athlon64's, but all prices will drop somewhat. There's already evidence of this at newegg...the 3000+ (1.8GHz) is now at $88, the 3200+ (2.0GHz) is $95, & the 3500+ (2.2GHz) is $109.
