Is there anything on the HDD? Has it been partitioned & formated? Did you check to see if it's listed in Disk Management?

Hard drive could be failing, or the file system has become corrupt and unreadable, though the hd is usually still picked up in disk mgmt. I would probably try recovering the drive first. Is it under warranty? If not sometimes it is necessary to remove the hard drive from the external case and hook it up directly to a sata connection(in case sata~usb board is toast). Two free recovery programs are Pc Files Inspector and Recuva. If you cannot retrieve the data, then I would test the drive with seatools or the hard manufacturers diagnostic, doing a short generic test, and then a long generic test if it passed the short. If the hard drive is not detected by recovery software or disk mgmt, you may have a fried hd board. Links below.

To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!

Unfortunately the fact that it was working two days ago means nothing - anything that ever fails was working before it failed.

As it is not seen on other PC's then it looks as if the external itself has died. It looks like a ready made slim USB HD unit so it is unlikely to be possible to repair it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
