How can i find out what AGP version i have and what my power supply is? I bought a PNY AGP card but it would't work after install. I went to the website and it said that either my AGP slot was not a 2.0 or my power supply was less than 300 watts. how can i find out what version slot i have and what power supply i have? All i know is that my pc is a hp pavilion xt 868

absent a link for the pavilion xt 868 I'd say that since the system uses pc133 memory (per crucial.com) it is unlikely the power supply is 300w or more, and is more likely 150w-230w.

If you just bought the vid card and it cost more than $100, is is unlikely to run on a system with a psu of under 300w.

Just guessing with limited data.

i ran sissoft sandra and it says my agp version is 2.00 and its speed is 4x. If so than all i would have to do is buy a new 300 watt power supply and it should work right? The card requires 150 watss and agp 2.0 slot.

Well ta, it would seem that simple. But, keep in mid that you have an OEM computer there and likely the PSU is made to fit the case.

Be careful what you buy.

like the above says the new psu may not work. Both because it may not fit and because may not turn on. It will do no harm to try though.

You need a couple of manuals. The one for your motherboard, and the one for the video card. You should at least be able to find them somewhere on the web. It may be a lot deeper than the power supply. Your motherboard may be unable to supply the right voltage to the agp slot. You didn't tell us much about the video card, other than the brand. Most of the newer graphic cards run on 1.5 volts. Your HP probably has 3v on the agp slot.

its a PNY Geforce fx 5200 ultra. I looked at the manual for my pc and it says nothing about the motherboard, it just tells me how to maintain and clean it up. The only info i can get out of the manual is how to change various other things like the hard drive and optical drives. But i removed my power supply and it says that the maximum it goes in 150 watts. The graphics card requires a minumum of 250. One more question, will replacing a 150 watts power supply to a 300 damage anything from too much power?

the bigger the better with psus. They do not force their power upon anything, they just have it waiting if its called upon.

You need a 300w psu or bigger. Note that an atx psu may not work with your mobo. Do you know what mobo it is?
