I need to know exactly how to tell If I have an agp slot. I opened up my case and there was a brown slot set further back than the others. But when I went into bios it gave me the option of pci or integrated agp (or something like that). Do I have an agp slot or do I need to buy a video card that uses the pci. Thanks

If the brown slot is long like the white pci slots (maybe a little longer), then you have an agp slot. If it is real short, with 2 equal halves then it is an AMR (audio modem riser).

Ok. Well, if the slot is about 5 inches long it is an AGP slot. If it is 2 inches long or so, it is an AMR modem slot. It's to be brown in both instances.

As you look at the back of the computer, if it is a tower, the AGP slot is the highest available slot, and is also nearest the CPU, all the WHITE pci are below it.

I just measured it and it's 3 inches long and no dividers. Is this an AMR modem and if it is what is it for as I already have a modem installed? Thanks

I'm not sure the computer was a gift. Does it give make and model anywhere on it.

Doesn't the pic in post 2 show you which is which?

btw an amr slot is even smaller than a pci slot. amr modems are rare. That slot is unused on 99% of systems.

it looks more like the one in post two. My modem is in a slot that looks exactly like the amr slot in the picture. The slot in question in my computer does not have the divider in it.

There are many motherboards with AGP slot that has no divider!

Just an example:

or

In a very rare case it could be cache slot.
(Most modren motherboards do not have cache slots)
