Comment: I need to know exactly how to tell If I have an agp slot. I opened up my case and there was a brown slot set further back than the others. But when I went into bios it gave me the option of pci or integrated agp (or something like that). Do I have an agp slot or do I need to buy a video card that uses the pci. Thanks

Reply: (edit)If the brown slot is long like the white pci slots (maybe a little longer), then you have an agp slot. If it is real short, with 2 equal halves then it is an AMR (audio modem riser).

Reply: (edit)Ok. Well, if the slot is about 5 inches long it is an AGP slot. If it is 2 inches long or so, it is an AMR modem slot. It's to be brown in both instances. As you look at the back of the computer, if it is a tower, the AGP slot is the highest available slot, and is also nearest the CPU, all the WHITE pci are below it.

Reply: (edit)I just measured it and it's 3 inches long and no dividers. Is this an AMR modem and if it is what is it for as I already have a modem installed? Thanks

Reply: (edit)Doesn't the pic in post 2 show you which is which? btw an amr slot is even smaller than a pci slot. amr modems are rare. That slot is unused on 99% of systems. http://www.3dnews.ru/documents/734/amr-slot.jpg

Reply: (edit)it looks more like the one in post two. My modem is in a slot that looks exactly like the amr slot in the picture. The slot in question in my computer does not have the divider in it.

Reply: (edit)There are many motherboards with AGP slot that has no divider! Just an example: http://us.st9.yimg.com/store6.yimg.com/I/justdeals_1747_113510 or http://us.st9.yimg.com/store6.yimg.com/I/justdeals_1747_4996 In a very rare case it could be cache slot. (Most modren motherboards do not have cache slots)
