What are the main differences in buying a AGP graphic card to a PCI graphic card? I have seen a decent computer but it has a PCI graphic card rather than a AGP.

I can't remember the last time I saw a PCI Video card even advertised...

Yeah, uh, AGP is about to replaced, too.
AGP features a higher bus speed (66MHz instead of 33MHz), ability to use system ram for texture cashing, optimized memory bandwidth, and more. Of course, your motherboard needs an AGP slot to install an AGP video card.
If someone is selling a new PC with a PCI video card, I'd be very leary of it.

Unless it is PCI-Express which is even faster than AGP.

PCI Express 16x is the new standard and it delivers 2x the bandwidth has AGP 8x. ATI and Nvidia are fasing out AGP for their top of the line models in May. AGP won't go away for sometime, it will be like Standard PCI. 7 years after AGP became main stream you can still pick up a standard PCI graphics card, but even that will die out once PCI Express 16x becomes big. Nvidia will no longer produce any standard PCI series after the MX 4000. It normally takes 7 to 10 years to completely fase out a product after a new one is introduced.

The thing that makes AGP desireable over pci is the fact it runs independant of the pci buss speed. Thus making the agp based card run at some pretty blistering speeds. Pci based vid cards are basicly slaves to the speed of the pci buss. Good for web surfing and non graphic intensive programs but not much else. (IMHO)
Now we have new standards comming out that make big promises of even better and faster graphics. But the money you have to lay out is currently unacceptable to the main stream user.I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid...

Now I did read somewhere the reason why they will not update AGP was because it reached it's limits and gaming companies demanded more output in graphics, so the graphics on motherboards had to be rethinked.
I wonder what is next for PCI Express 16x an 18x, 20x, 24x and then something else better comes out 8 years from now?
