8x is faster. It is the graphics cards speed. Are you reading this on a card or in your book for your PC?

When you upgrade an integrated 64 Mb video card to AGP4X/8X the Bios detects the new video card and makes the settings right for you.The 8X is slightly faster than 4X but it does not matter since it depends on the Bios for the final choice. For nvidia based AGP cards start looking for FX-5200 with 128 Mb RAM or better card depending on budget. This model is compatible with DirectX 9.0c and OpenGl.You should shy away from nvidia 64 Mb that is less compatible with recent games. If you upgrade change boot priority to AGP in the Bios. You can also remove RAM allocated to the integrated video card in the Bios.Good luck.
